La Chine de Mao

Hugues Vassal is the first photographer to get a  visa for the People's Republic of China in 1971. The images he brings back are unique and rare: Chinese rural life, laborers, their education system, everyday life, Chinese medicine, daily readings from Mao's Little Red Book...Between 1971 and 1976 Vassal will travel to China several times and observe the changes occurring in Chinese life, the onset of agricultural machinery, the first transistors radios reaching the countryside. He shoots portraits of  Zhou En lai, Premier of the People's Republic of China, Jiang Qing, actress, major political figure and the last wife of Mao Zedong. He accompanies French politicians: Georges Pompidou in 1973, Maurice Schumann...
